New York, New York (February 2017) - Located among the rich cultural expressions of Manhattan’s Upper West Side, NYLO New York City hotel will launch Arthouse @ NYLO on March 8th, 2017. Celebrating the robust cultural landscape, iconic to the New York City experience, Arthouse @ NYLO will be a series of arts programs that activate the space and engage the local community.
The first program in the Arthouse @ NYLO series will be the Sound OffTM Silent Cinema Series, a cinematic experience complemented by specialty cocktails, which showcases art industry films on the big screen with wireless Sound Off™ headphones. Every Wednesday through July 2017, the hotel’s Library will transform into a sanctuous screening room to feature a different film each month, all themed around arts and culture in its various interpretations. Guests will relax in the private lounge enveloped by plush armchairs and blackout curtains, indulging in a heightened sensory experience. Each Sound OffTM Cinema screening will have unique specialty cocktail pairings that pay homage to the celebrated artists in focus.
The screening line-up will feature films including:
- March 8th: Factory Girl; a window into 1960s Factory subculture in New York City, iconised in part by pop heroine and muse Edie Sedgwick and the infamous Andy Warhol
- April: Girl with the Pearl Earring; bringing Johannes Vermeer’s art to life
- May: Exit Through the Giftshop; a look into the elusive life of Banksy, the notorious street artist
- June: 8 ½; Federico Fellini’s black and white comedy-drama that glorifies 1960s Italy
- July: George Clooney’s Monument’s Men, the story without precedent of a group of volunteers who risked their careers in order to preserve cultural treasures during World War II
- August: Frida; the colorful portrayal of the artistic development of Frida Kahlo and her marriage to Diego Rivera
For its Factory Girl screening, Campbell Soup cans will line shelves and feature prominently on the menu, as cocktail vessels serving “The Muse,” created by award-winning bartender Cody Goldstein. The libation will be made from Four Pillars Rare Dry Gin, St. Germain, grapefruit, orange, and cinnamon. In house mixologist Earlecia Richelle, meanwhile, will be serving up a playful Coca Cola concoction titled “It Girl”: a cola daiquiri with Bacardi Ocho, cola cordial, lime and cherry bitters served in classic glass Coke bottles.
In the pipeline, Arthouse @ NYLO will expand its programming with a further two series in 2017. An interactive children’s workshop program will launch bimonthly on weekends to educate and inspire a new generation by emulating the techniques of Modern and Contemporary Masters like Matisse and Basquiat. Each session will focus on a new artist. The first such program will inaugurate the series with a mobile-making workshop inspired by lyrically balanced works of Alexander Calder.
In Spring, NYLO New York City’s lobby will be in full bloom, as the space is inundated twice a month with local flower vendors for a pop-up flower market Friday through Saturday. A kaleidoscope of colors and scents, NYLO New York City will be the Upper West Side’s premier location for all floral needs, overflowing with verdant vendors of buds and blooms as the city shakes the last ice chip of its shoulder.
